Songs made from the perspectives of different people during the events of the first part of Genesis. Each song tries to imagine the thoughts and emotions at the time.

Based on Genesis 11 - What Is This I Hear?

[Verse 1]

I came down through the silence,

Watched towers pierce the sky.

Hands raised not in worship,

But in defiance — reaching high.
.Their tongues spoke unity,

But hearts were full of pride.

One name they sought to lift
—
And it wasn't Mine.

[Pre-Chorus]

I gave them breath,

And now they build in stone.

They say they don’t need Me,

That they’ll make it on their own...

[Chorus]

What is this I hear?!

Voices rising in rebellion!

A city forged in arrogance,

A monument to men!

What is this I hear?!

Not praise but self-made glory!

I weep for what they've lost...

They never knew how far they'd fallen.

[Verse 2]

One speech, one dream, one brick upon the next,

But not a prayer was lifted — not a soul confessed.

They gather in their might,

But they're blind to what they build
—
Not a kingdom of heaven,

But a stairway to their guilt.

[Breakdown]

I made them for wonder,

I shaped them from dust...

Now they cast Me aside

For towers that will rust.

Their unity is rebellion,

Their progress is decay!

I won’t watch them fall together
—
I will turn them all away!

[Final Chorus]

What is this I hear?!

A thousand tongues now clashing!

Brick and speech undone
—
I scattered what they fashioned.

What is this I hear?!

Confusion where there was pride!

They will search for meaning
—
But not find it side by side.

[Outro]

Still I long for them...

To return, to remember...

But not on towers of Babel.

Not with hearts of stone.

What is this I hear...?
A remnant through the noise...
One lineage still calls My name
While the rest forget My voice.
Though scattered to the corners,
Still one thread runs clear:
A people set apart...
My promise drawing near.
